Depression Lex Medication For Relief

Depression is a very complicated disease, and it is unique to each person who is suffering from it.  When you decide that the time is right for you to consult your physician about your depression, you will be discussing many different remedies and options for your treatment.  If you are an adult and you are diagnosed with major depressive disorder, or generalized anxiety disorder, one of the medicines that may help you is a depression lex medication.  Lexapro is a serotonin reuptake inhibitor or (SSRI).

Depression is not completely, 100% understood.  But it is believed that people feeling major depression have an imbalance of the brain’s neurotransmitters.  Lexapro works by helping to restore the brain’s chemical imbalance.  It helps to relieve the symptoms of depression and anxiety by increasing the supply of serotonin in the brain.  Lexapro is taken once a day, at any time of the day, with or without food.  Although you will feel relief from depression within a few weeks depending on your own unique situation, you will not receive the full benefits it has to offer until 4-6 weeks.

Lexapro can also be taken in conjunction with other medications.  Most times depression is accompanied by many physical aches and pains, and for that over the counter pain medication can help.  But make sure you consult with your doctor about which ones are ok, you need to keep them informed about any herbal supplements, diet supplements, or over the counter medication you are taking in order to avoid a bad drug interaction.

Just like all of the other antidepressants that are available by prescriptions, depression lex medication comes with many potential side effects.  Some of these may be nausea, insomnia, drowsiness, excessive sweating, constant fatigue, decreased libido, and ejaculation disorder.  Lexapro will affect each person differently, so until you know how the medicine will react with your body, be careful, and even avoid doing activities such as driving, or operating heavy machinery.  You must also avoid drinking alcohol.

It is also very important to remember that you need to take your medication for as long as your physician has prescribed.  You will start feeling better, that is the medication doing it’s job, but full recovery will take time, and stopping it early could mean that your symptoms will return.
